Only by mastering the greatest fighting styles and defeating the most powerful enemies will you earn your place as a master of martial arts in the world of the Jade Empire. At the beginning of the game, the player is a young martial artist just beginning to explore the world. So I bought Jade Empire, a classic game that I used to play way back on my original Xbox console, for the PC, expecting it to perform great out of the box, seeing as it's a rather old title. Much to my dissapointment, this wasn't the case, as I was greeted with disgustingly choppy performance my first time booting up the game.

On a whim, I picked up Jade Empire Special Edition today, since I've been looking for a new action RPG for a while now and it seemed kind of interesting.
I don't so much as have the game installed yet, but does anyone present have any spoiler-free advice for a new player? In particular I'm looking for pitfalls that might not be obvious to someone unfamilar with the game, the sort of thing that doesn't seem disadvantageous early on but is likely to cause problems as I progress through the game. I see myself investing a fair amount of time in this, but I don't want to spend that time rerolling on account of poor decisions if I can at all help it.
Note that I'm not looking to powergame at this point, just to avoid nerfing myself by making uninformed or ill-informed choices.
